It’s almost that time of year when we as moms are celebrated for our undeniable awesomeness! However it’s so easy to forget that every mom also has a mom of her own. Quite frankly, I can think of no better way to spend some time with the various generations of moms and children than with a real Mother’s Day celebration. So, here are a few ideas for bringing children, mothers, mothers-of-mothers and mothers-of-mothers-of-mothers together so that this year, you can celebrate the joys of motherhood in unison:
- Arrange a high tea – not only will your prim and proper mother love it, but you’ll love it and so will your little girls.
- Go for a picnic in the park, on the beach or in your very own garden. Remember to pack a folding chair for mom!
- Head out for a day at the local zoo! Young and old are sure to be enchanted by the mighty monsters of the wild.
- Have a baking day where you can learn something new from your mother and the kids can get down and dirty in the cooking dough.
- Plan an arts and crafts day! Mother’s Day is the ideal time for passing knowledge down from one generation to the next, so let gran teach the kids to knit, sew or crochet. In turn you can teach her a thing or two about a modern art form like decoupage or mosaic.
- Have a fondue fest with mom and kids – start off with a broth or cheese fondue and end off with a chocolate fountain. This will serve for plenty of bonding time between young and old.
- Arrange a family board game tournament with games from the decades – from old fashioned games like Scrabble and Monopoly, to Cluedo and modern versions of Monopoly.
- Get together for a bit of family gardening. Creating something sustainable, like a garden, as a family automatically brings you closer together.
- Get all hands on deck for a family scrapbooking day. Not only is it a fun and interactive family project, but this gives Gran the opportunity to retell the stories depicted in her old photos which generally leads to quite a few giggles!
- Create a THEN and NOW picture with your own kids or with your mom and siblings to commemorate this Mother’s Day – see this post for more details: http://www.momtrepreneur.co.za/then-and-now-family-photos/
